Title: Activity of Glutathione Reductase and Glutathione Peroxydase in Dementia of the Alzheimer Type. Preliminary study Author: El?bieta Trypka, Jerzy Leszek [original article, in polish]
Aim. The aim of the present work was an estimate activity of gluthatione enzymes in different stage of disease.
Methods. 49 patients with the DAT and age-matched healthy controls (n=49) were studied. The intensity of cognitive decline was assessed by: The Mini Mental State Examination Scale (MMSE), Clock test, Global Deterioration Scale by Reisberg (GDS). Psychiatric and somatic examination, CT or NMR, laboratory exam were preformed. Enzymes activity was evaluated by means of spectrophotometric method. Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for statistic analyses.
Results. Significant increase was noted in the activity of reductase gluthatione in patients. There was no difference in the activity of peroxidase gluthatione regardless of stage of disease.
Conclusions.
1. The results may suggest the increase of role of gluthatione in defense of oxidative stress. 2. There are no difference in activity of peroxidase gluthatione between group, because there were assess both form of this enzyme. 3. Lack of difference beetween enzymes activity in different stage of disease provide that activity of reductase and peroxidase gluthatione can not be marker of disease.
Key words: glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, oxidative stress
